What budgeting tools are available to me?

We provide a loan affordability calculator and links to other helpful budgeting tools on our loans page.

What if the Free Application for Federal Student Loan doesn’t require information that I think should be considered in determining my financial aid eligibility?

Please communicate such information by phone or e-mail to Student Financial Services when you submit the Seminary Scholarship Application. We may request additional information if we need it to consider your unusual circumstances. Examples of unusual circumstances would include unreimbursed medical expenses, change in family income, etc.

How will I know if I qualified to receive any federal or institutional financial aid?

After you have submitted all requested information, Student Financial Services will evaluate it using federal and institutional guidelines. Following this assessment and your admission to GRTS, we will notify you of the type(s) and amount(s) of financial aid for which you qualify. Once you receive your financial aid award letter, return a signed copy to the Student Financial Services Office indicating which awards you accept. Please note that you will not be notified until you have been admitted to GRTS.

We award financial aid on a “rolling” basis until all funds are exhausted. However, we will consider you for maximum financial aid options if you submit your financial aid application by March 31 for the fall semester and November 1 for the spring semester.

Returning students must register for courses within the correct registration period in order to qualify for institutional aid. (This does not apply to any aid coming from outside the institution, such as federal loans or state grants.)

Where can I get help with filing for financial aid?

The Federal Student Aid Information Center will help you with completing the FAFSA and interpreting the Student Aid Report. You can call them at 800.433.3243 (800.4.FED.AID).

Please call the Student Financial Services Office at 616.222.1424 if you have other questions about filing for financial aid.

What is considered “full time” for financial aid purposes?

Federal and State Financial Aid

9+ Full Time
5-8 Part Time

Institutional Financial Aid

12+ Level 1
9-11 Level 2
5-8 Level 3

For example, if you were awarded the following:

Federal Un/Subsidized Loan $1,000 per semester
GRTS Grant/Scholarship $1,000 per semester

Enrolling in 5-8 credits for a semester would result in:

Federal Un/Subsidized Loan $500 per semester
GRTS Grant/Scholarship $500 per semester

Enrolling in 9-11 credits for a semester would result in:

Federal Un/Subsidized Loan $1,000 per semester
GRTS Grant/Scholarship $750 per semester

Enrolling in 12+ credits for a semester would result in:

Federal Un/Subsidized Loan $1,000 per semester
GRTS Grant/Scholarship $1,000 per semester

Is financial aid available for summer courses?

Institutional grants and scholarships are only available for the fall and spring semesters. However, loans are available to students taking five or more credits in the summer.
