Students in Action

GRTS students are active in a wide range of ministries. These are a few students who would like to share their experiences with you.

Matt Boyle, MDiv. Pastoral Ministries

I spent my entire life in Chicago until I went to Hope College in Holland, Michigan. I graduated with a business degree and became a banker. A couple of years after graduating I began to realize that God had created me for something other than working in a bank. I spent the next three years volunteering in the junior high ministry at our local church and working full time as a junior high director at Youth for Christ.

As my desire to learn and teach the Bible continued to grow the next step for me was to attend seminary. I am now a full time student and serve as the junior high teaching pastor at our church in Grandville, Michigan. My wife, Corrie, is the lead pastor of our junior high ministry and is much cooler than I am. It is a huge blessing to be receiving a seminary education, to have the opportunity to teach the Bible to students, and to watch my wife be so good at her job!

 Stacy Williams, M.Div. Youth Ministries

I completed my undergraduate degree in sociology and psychology at Central Michigan University.  After graduating from CMU, I moved to New York City to serve with an inner city missions organization.  During that time, I felt God calling me to graduate school and after an extensive online search, and visiting a couple of seminaries across the US, I decided that GRTS was right for me.

I am currently serving as a CLC resident at Impact Church in Lowell, Michigan. My residency involves helping with a church plant, helping with the service programming at impact, fundraising for body care ministry, and actively leading the "intern house," where my husband and I currently live.

I have a heart for neglected children and have explored starting an organization that serves this population of youth. I am not certain of the details, but look forward to using my gifts and equipping for service in God's kingdom.

Matthew Westerholm, M.A. Systematic Theology

Matthew wrote a song last summer called "O Bless the Lord" which is one of the tracks on a new worship CD from Harvest Bible Chapel.  This song was also selected by the SongDISCovery www.songdiscovery.com compilation series to be featured in their March/April 2009 compilation CD.

The verses of "O Bless the Lord" are based on the 103rd Psalm, and the chorus is based on Psalm 30:5.  Matthew said, "these were passages I was memorizing at the time, that I wanted to share with a family in our church who was going through a difficult season.  A really good friend of mine, Lindsay McCaul, helped me put the finishing touches on the song.  We recorded the song, and the album was released in September."

The album is called "Lift Up The Name" by Harvest Bible Chapel. Matthew also wrote or co-wrote 2 other songs on the album.
