Global Access to Theological Education (G.A.T.E.)

Objective:
To partner with indigenous seminaries to offer credible, contextualized, graduate training for ministry.

G.A.T.E. is a collaborative effort between GRTS and indigenous seminaries. Through the sharing of faculty and resources, GRTS helps grow the capacity and long-term sustainability of partnering schools. In addition, GRTS benefits by having faculty and staff from the partnering schools visit GRTS who give us a more global perspective on theology and ministry.

We have a G.A.T.E. program in Liberia and we're exploring the expansion of G.A.T.E. in Northern India and Southwest China.

G.A.T.E. Liberia, a partnership between GRTS and the Evangelical Theological Seminary of Liberia (ETSEL), was launched in 2007 and includes:

  • 30 Liberian ministry leaders receiving partial scholarships to enroll in M.A. and M.Div. programs specifically developed for the Liberian context.
  • All 30 G.A.T.E. Liberia students travel monthly to more rural regions of Liberia to train other Liberian pastors who have never had the chance to receive any formal ministry training.
  • GRTS sends our faculty to Liberia to teach one week modules that supplement the courses already taught by ETSEL faculty.
  • ETSEL sends their faculty to GRTS for one week modules to give our community a West African understanding of the Scriptures, theology, and ministry.
  • GRTS administration provide ETSEL with consulting on areas of need (assessment,, library, curriculum review, etc.)
  • GRTS and ETSEL will select 3 of the 30 G.A.T.E. Liberia students to go on for doctorate degrees (preferably in Africa) to come back and teach at ETSEL.

G.A.T.E. is possible because of some generous financial partners who shared our vision for reinventing how schools like GRTS can multiply internationally. We're continuing to raise funds for G.A.T.E. Liberia and for our expansion into NW India and SW China. Contact us for more information on how to be involved. glc@cornerstone.edu
